All-Star Comics #3
While in rough shape, the interiors of this book were
quite nice and flexible - although, torn and well-read. Pieces were
missing from not only the cover but the interiors as well. Restoration
began by removing the staples and separating the folios. The cover and
interiors were dry-cleaned to remove any surface dirt and the entire book was
humidified and pressed to flatten the folios out and remove the spine-roll.
The cover was treated with solvents to remove the written ink and the
ink-stamp from the cover. The remaining stains (both on the cover and
interiors) were then removed through bleaching of all the folios. Areas
of loss on the cover and interiors were spot-cast (a form of leaf-casting) by
hand. All infilled areas of the cover
and interiors were then color-touched to recreate missing artwork and graphics.
The inside front cover text that was damaged (and missing) was recreated as
well.
The book was then refolded,
reassembled and pressed.
