Captain America Comics Annual
Square-bound volumes always pose an interesting
challenge. Since the cover is not attached to the rest of the text
block by staples, but instead by adhesive at the spine, separation of the
cover from the interiors is not easily achieved. Testing must be done
to determine the appropriate solvent and once determined, it must be applied
conservatively so that no staining of the interiors occurs. Once the
cover is off, then the staples holding the folios in place can be removed.
The cover of this book was
flattened, infilled and then
all infilled areas of the cover were inpainted to recreate missing artwork and graphics.
The cover was then reattached using an archival adhesive (instead of the
traditional adhesive used by the original binder) and the entire book was
then pressed.
